You are the Hero of Your Life
I firmly believe that we are the architects of our own lives. However, we all have unique ways of bringing our creations to life. According to NLP methodology, there are three distinct lifestyles - surfer, lulled, and planned - each with its own characteristics.
You can learn more about these lifestyles in the following text and identify which one resonates with you. It's important to reflect on whether your current lifestyle is helping you achieve your desired outcomes or you need to make some changes. Remember, you are the hero of your own life story.
Surfer lifestyle
Surfers, as individuals, are known for their impressive ability to adapt to new and challenging circumstances. They navigate through life with a positive attitude, believing that things will eventually fall into place. Due to their lack of a fixed destination, they tend to modify their plans frequently. They enjoy socializing, thrilling adventures, and having a good time.
Surfers tend to live in the moment, taking everything that life offers in the present without obsessing over the future. Their fun-loving, social personalities make them a favorite in society. They possess great versatility, which can be an asset in life.
However, due to their tendency to get sidetracked by new distractions, they often lose sight of their goals and fail to pursue the path they have chosen, ultimately resulting in a lack of focus and perspective.
Lulled lifestyle
Lulled people find comfort in routines and the orderliness of their lives. They are hesitant to venture outside of their comfort zone, valuing security above all else. These individuals are averse to change and often prefer the status quo.
They maintain a structured schedule, down to the time they drink their morning coffee or engage in social activities. Although they enjoy the company of familiar people, they also appreciate solitude.
However, this lifestyle can lead to a repetitive cycle with little variation, causing individuals to unintentionally seek different results with the same approach. When faced with the prospect of leaving their safe zone, they may feel apprehensive and unsure.
Planning lifestyle
Planners are individuals who thrive on structure and adhere to a meticulously crafted plan. They regularly set and write down their goals, preferring to be organized and efficient. This often leads them to come across as boring and overly disciplined to those with a surfer or lull lifestyle.
These are the type of people who revel in spreadsheets, calendars, to-do lists, and planners. They approach every task with seriousness and strive to fulfill their responsibilities to the best of their abilities. Precise steps are the way they prefer to work, whether it involves preparing for an exam, completing a work assignment, or planning a birthday party. This way of functioning permeates all aspects of their lives.
However, while planners are generally successful in realizing their daily goals, this lifestyle can sometimes be draining. Their dedication, discipline, and organizational skills can lead to a heavy workload, frequent fear of failure, and constant worry about whether everything will be achieved in a precisely defined manner.
Changes are an integral part of life
From the above, it's clear that every lifestyle has its pros and cons, and extremes in any sense are not sustainable.
Personally, I used to live predominantly as a planner, enjoying creating goals and strictly following the path to achieving them. However, I realized that unexpected events could make it burdensome and stressful. That's when I knew it was time for a change.
So I gradually transitioned into surfing while still keeping some aspects of the planner lifestyle that I thought could serve me.
My gradual approach was due to my resistance to change. I was scared of not fulfilling a plan or obligation, and my safe zone was my familiar, yet stressful planner lifestyle.
I criticized myself for not doing enough and always thought that what I did was not good enough. I believed that productivity was non-negotiable.
It took me a while to accept the change and the new version of myself. Now, I like to think of myself as a surfer with goals. I know where I'm going and what I want, but I don't have to follow a rigid path to get there. I'm open to unpredictable waves, even those that I can't control.
This change was made possible through NLP and has positively impacted my life in many ways. I'm more relaxed and less burdened with future goals, which allows me to focus on the present moment and what I can do now to ensure a better tomorrow.
It's essential to remember that we are the heroes of our life, and we choose how we go through it, whether we swing, swim or fly. What's even more important is being true to ourselves and creating our own life accordingly.
Do you recognize yourself in any of these lifestyles? Do you resist change, or do you embrace it to achieve your goals?
Gde se ti prepoznaješ? Da li se tome opireš ili prepuštaš? I da li te to vodi ka tvojim ciljevima?
